When you set a budget for the year, you are actually creating a spending plan. A plan that allows you to ensure you have the necessary funds for the things that keep your business up and running. When you follow your budget plan it does a number of things.

Keeps you out of debt

When you plan on the cost of certain expenses AND also for future purchases it allows you to pay upfront instead of taking out loans. Making sure you have the funds to pay the utility bill as well as a new piece of equipment sets you up for financial success. Planned purchases are always better than unexpected ones.

Keeps you on track with your cashflow

When you know the amount you need in order to cover your expenses it becomes easier to know what your cashflow should be to cover them.

Helps attain goals

Goals are much easier to accomplish when you have a plan. An executed plan means growth which leads to wealth. When your business has wealth it’s easier to plan for growth. They all work hand in hand.

Helps with decision making

Knowing what your budget is and how much you have to spend or covered allows you to make sound business decisions, such as future purchases. Instead of taking a look at if you have money in the bank to cover a purchase you should take a look at your budget and see if it makes sense to make that purchase. Do you have room in your budget to start putting money aside for the purchase or the ability to grow?

Forces you to think long term

When you have a plan and goals to attain it forces you to think long term instead of this week or month. Think quarterly or semiannual and how you will achieve that goal. Set goals that will lead to a 3-ог 5-year plan you have for your business.

Budgets Matter

Setting a budget has many advantages for your business. The question is, where do you want to be and how will you get there.
